The Granite Education Foundation recognizes and honors superior educators – true classroom heroes – the men and women responsible for molding and preparing our children to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century. These individuals have a track record of improving student achievement, using innovative instructional strategies and making a difference in the lives of students. These educators are among a select few highlighted annually as Excel Outstanding Educators who are making a difference in Granite School District classrooms.
Why honor teachers?
Research shows that students with high-performing teachers can progress three times as fast as students with low-performing teachers. Effective educators can influence the climate of the entire school. Their commitment, passion, expertise, and creativity are infectious. Students love them because they make learning fun and engaging. Administrators love them because they get results. Parents love them because they affirm their student’s potential.
In the face of increasing class sizes and insufficient funding and resources, the majority of Granite District teachers are dipping into their own pockets and their own time to bridge the gap for their students. Educators are finding progressive and engaging solutions to institutional problems and changing the world, one child at a time.
How does the contest work?
Based on the nominees submitted, the Granite Education Foundation solicits those nominated to take the next step in the nomination process by completing a rigorous application process. Officials from the Granite Education Foundation, Granite School District, and members of the Board of Judges, review every application, visit the classes (unannounced) of each Excel educator finalist weighing their observations against a rubric. Winners are announced in a surprise visit.
All current classroom teachers in grades K-12 are eligible. Previous Excel winners are ineligible. Nominations can be submitted by students, fellow teachers, supervisors, district administrators or other interested individuals. Self-nominees are not eligible and will be disqualified.
All nominations must be received by close of business day, Friday, December 8, 2017.
