Each summer, Granite Education Foundation collects backpacks and school supplies (and raises money) for Granite School District children. These supplies will be given to students in need on the first day of the 2021-2022 school year so they can have the tools necessary to attend school and to fully participate.
And with more than half of Granite School District students living at or below the poverty level, the need is extreme.
This year, we've partnered with KUTV 2 News, Holladay City, and many other corporate sponsors to ensure this year is the best ever. And we want you to join us! As part of the Granite School District, you can make a difference too.
Here are a few ways you can get involved.
Make a Financial Contribution
Granite Education Foundation can stretch a dollar! While we love to receive donated items, like new backpacks and school supplies, our buying power, along with our fabulous corporate partners, help us ensure that financial contributions go the furthest. A donation of just $10 will provide a new backpack, filled with critical school supplies, for a child in need. It really is "the most bang for your buck!"
Purchase and Assemble School Backpacks
It can be so much fun to go shopping and to fill a new backpack with paper, pencils, crayons, and community love! This can be an excellent service opportunity for businesses, church groups, neighborhoods, and families!
Basic instructions for assembling elementary and secondary school backpacks can be found here.
We love when our bags come full, but we understand this isn't always possible. Below are suggested items we love to receive as donations and in our backpacks.
- New elementary student sized backpack (no drawstring bags please) with:
- Safety scissors
- Eraser (large)
- Glue stick
- Colored pencils (12 ct)
- Dry-Erase Marker 4 Pack
- 2 spiral notebooks
