In 1988 a group of visionary business leaders and educators formed an organization that has since been touted as one of the “finest forward-thinking public school foundations in the nation.”
The Granite Education Foundation is an independent, community-based organization that mobilizes ideas, leadership, support, and money necessary to enable and encourage private individuals and businesses to make a direct and meaningful impact on children within the Granite School District. The Granite Education Foundation works to develop and implement school improvement initiatives, create model programs, award grants and scholarships, and leverage community resources to support, strengthen and improve public support.
Inspired by the drive to make a contribution over and above baseline education, and sharing a belief that improving public schools and education was too big a task for a district to undertake alone, the Granite Education Foundation was established as an independent 501 (c)(3) non-profit Utah entity. A small group of Salt Lake County business owners, Salt Lake County residents, educators, and Granite District administrators were united by a common concern for increasing levels of funding for K-12 education in Salt Lake County.
The institution facilitates working programs and in-kind donations that benefit students and teachers on a regular basis. Through its outreach and partnerships with local and national business entities, the Foundation encourages others to make a direct and meaningful impact on children in public education.
The Foundation works alongside teachers to provide students the support necessary to not only succeed in the classroom, but to also succeed in life. Through its efforts, students’ educational experiences have been enhanced, children’s and educators’ horizons have been broadened and teachers’ resources have been multiplied.
